Formed in 1906, the Surrey Schools (Surrey School District) has the largest student enrolment in British Columbia and is one of the few growing districts in the province. It is governed by a publicly elected board of seven trustees. Surrey is the largest school district in British Columbia with over 80,000 students and 195+ languages represented. The District includes over 100 elementary schools, 21 secondary schools, 5 learning centres, and 3 adult education centres. The District serves the cities of Surrey and White Rock. Why Surrey School District 36 (SSD36) Location : Located on Canada’s spectacular west coast in the middle of Metropolitan Vancouver, Surrey Schools is the fastest growing and most innovative school district in the province of British Columbia. The District consists of schools in two cities: Surrey and White Rock. A large and geographically diverse city, Surrey offers a mix of urban and suburban living and is comprised of six distinct and diverse town centres. Program Offerings : Being the largest school district in British Columbia allows Surrey School District to offer many different program offerings - International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP), athletics, arts, music, robotics, etc. With 21 secondary and over 100 elementary schools, Surrey is considered a leader in education in BC. The District is often chosen to pilot new curriculum and programs before they are rolled out to the rest of the province.
