Why Holy Cross High School English as an Additional Language: At Holy Cross, the English as an Additional Language (EAL) program is designed for students whose first language is not English. Six courses are offered where students have the opportunity to earn credits whether they are just beginning to use English or nearing fluency. The content is individualized and uses a balanced approach to developing, speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills. Non-credit tutorial classes are also offered to develop language skills while supporting students in their academic programs. Extracurricular activities: Over the years, Holy Cross High School has earned city and provincial championship in badminton, basketball, choral, cross country, curling, debate, football, soccer, stage band, track and field, volleyball, wrestling, and yearbook events. The extracurricular program plays a vital role in the total school experience. St. Joseph High School is located in the eastern quadrant of the city. With a population of approximately 1050 students throughout grades 9-12, it offers a comprehensive program for students. St. Joseph is ideally located right next door to the SaskTel Soccer centre which houses a full sized indoor soccer centre. After the school opened, it was decided, with the help of the Meewasin Valley Authority and Superintendent Dick Niemen, that the schoolyard would be reclaimed as natural prairie. This remains a unique feature of the school today. Why St. Joseph High School English as an Additional Language: At St. Joseph High School, EAL students are provided with a variety of opportunities to develop their English. The content is individualized with a balanced emphasis on speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Unique support for students: The implementation of Teacher Guardian Groups (TGGs) is a defining program at St. Joseph. Every student is assigned to a "homeroom" teacher for his or her entire high school career.
