Program Description The Carpentry program at Seattle Central College's Wood Technology Center will help students learn and master carpentry skills with the guidance and supervision of expert instructors. The five-quarter Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program is designed to help entry-level and experienced students become highly-skilled professionals in the construction industry. Carpentry is a fast-growing field, and northwest Washington has one of the highest concentrations of carpentry jobs nationwide (according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). The Carpentry program will help students gain valuable skills that employers want, and they will gain valuable experience with green building practices, cutting-edge materials and industry best practices. Program graduates find rewarding careers in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including: Framing Roofing Concrete and Foundation Work Drywall Installation Interior and Exterior Finish Carpentry Building Science Remodeling and Preservation Site Preparation The Wood Technology Center at Seattle Central College provides safe and comprehensive hands-on training in sustainable, energy-efficient construction practices. Students will learn classic design principles and develop their skills in project layout, building, finishing and inspection techniques. As students progress through their courses, they will complete a number of professional projects under real-world conditions. Graduates are well-prepared for entry-level opportunities in carpentry and right on track for leadership roles down the road.
