Program Description The M.S. in Exercise Science program is designed as a multidisciplinary study of human movement and performance across the lifespan. Through classroom, laboratory, and field based experiences, our graduates learn about human performance and disease prevention from childhood to older adulthood. Students use skills to identify, analyze and explain physiological, structural and functional dynamics that influence fitness, health and performance in the sport and exercise settings. Students learn about the integrations of human physiology, movement, and cognition through both clinical and applied coursework. Students gain the knowledge, skills and abilities to advance as exercise science professionals. The integrated knowledge of the physiologic, biomechanical, motor and psychological aspects of exercise and diet behaviors are understood in relation to the application to maximal performance and health at the individual level. Applied experiences are available in the forms of directed research, independent studies and internships. Students may also participate in faculty research or conduct a thesis for further research experience. This program has a large network of alumni who offer new opportunities in the form of internship experiences and career networking. Additionally, upon graduation, students are prepared to take a variety of certifications such as clinical exercise physiologist. The Master of Science in Exercise Science prepares students in careers in private and public sectors of health, sports, and medicine in areas such as cardiac rehabilitation, physical/occupational rehabilitation, sport and fitness medicine, other related professional areas in both medical and sport settings. In addition, the Exercise Science program will prepare students for entry into a variety of doctoral programs in the exercise science disciplines, particularly if the thesis option is selected.
