The Master of Science - Environmental Science program offers exceptional preparation, equipping students with highly marketable and competitive skills that distinguish them in the field—from geospatial technologies and advanced quantitative analysis to collaborative and communication abilities that enable them to effectively share scientific information with both specialized and non-scientific audiences. The program’s emphasis on hands-on, experiential learning prepares students for valuable work in the field as well as in state-of-the-art laboratories, where they gain experience using R statistical software and other technologies commonly employed by environmental professionals. Its focus on geospatial technologies and advanced quantitative analysis allows students to take courses in GIS, remote sensing, and environmental modeling, applying these tools to course-based projects that prepare them to excel immediately upon graduation. The Professional Science M.S. Internship Track is designed for students seeking to develop specialized skills for high-impact careers in technology and applied science–based companies, resource management and planning agencies, scientific and environmental consulting firms, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. The M.S. Thesis Track is suited for students who wish to focus on independent research for professional publication, using that experience to pursue advanced studies in leading doctoral programs or to build successful careers in scientific research, resource management, education, and policy-making. Through an individualized and collaborative approach, the program enables students to customize their curriculum with electives offered at CSU Monterey Bay, the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, and UC Santa Cruz.
