The Major in chemistry offers numerous options to meet student’s career aspiration, while the Area in chemistry caters to students interested in working in the chemical industry or pursuing graduate studies in the chemical sciences. The Area degree is accredited by the American Chemical Society’s Committee on Professional Training. Additionally, a Master of Science (MS) Degree in Chemistry is available for students seeking to further their studies in chemistry and related fields, with both thesis and non-thesis options. The Department of Chemistry boasts 13 faculty members with diverse experience and expertise. Many faculty members are actively engaged in research and provide mentorship for undergraduate and graduate projects across various chemistry disciplines. Research activities are supported through grants and contracts, and are conducted in the state-of-the-art Jesse D. Jones Hall, equipped with technology-enhanced classrooms and over a million dollars’ worth of chemical instrumentation. This instrumentation was predominantly funded by a generous donation from Dr. Jesse D. Jones (Chemistry ‘64) and is housed in the Jones/Ross Research Center.
