International direct admission to Louisiana State University (LSU) is designed for international students with advanced English-language skills. The program focuses on academic, cultural, and professional growth to help students excel in their studies and prepare for a successful future. As international direct students at LSU, they will receive exclusive and rigorous academic coursework, priority access to in-demand courses that align with their interests, guidance from academic advisors and mentors, career development opportunities, and networking opportunities with domestic students. The curriculum in plant and soil systems at LSU combines the disciplines of agronomy, entomology, horticulture, plant pathology, and crop physiology. Students in this program take core courses that provide a foundational knowledge necessary for specialization in one of nine areas of concentration, including agricultural pest management in entomology and plant pathology, crop science, horticultural sciences, soil science, sustainable production systems, turf and landscape management, and urban entomology. The agricultural pest management concentration at LSU is an interdisciplinary program that covers weed science, plant pathology, and entomology. Students in this concentration gain a broad knowledge base in pest management disciplines and practical field experience. The program includes core courses in pest management disciplines, a strong background in agriculture and sciences, and practical training through internships. Students can personalize their degree program with a range of elective courses to prepare for careers in agricultural industries, research, extension, regulatory agencies, consulting firms, cooperatives, nurseries, golf courses, greenhouse production, corporate farms, pest control, public health, and forensic entomology.
