International direct admission to Louisiana State University (LSU) is available for international students who possess advanced English-language skills. The program is designed to foster academic, cultural, and professional growth in order to help students succeed in their studies and prepare for a prosperous future. As an international direct student at LSU, individuals will benefit from: Exclusive and rigorous academic coursework Priority access to sought-after courses tailored to their interests Guidance from academic advisors and mentors Career development opportunities and networking events Intensive classes alongside domestic students The School of Renewable Natural Resources offers a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Ecology and Management, featuring a diverse curriculum that covers topics such as wetlands, wildlife, conservation biology, fisheries, aquaculture, forestry, habitat management, and law enforcement. Students in this program can also prepare for careers as wildlife-oriented veterinarians. Unlike traditional biology programs, this program emphasizes hands-on learning and introduces aspects of resource policy, regulations, and the human dimension of resource research and management. Field experiences in forests, wetlands, and aquatic environments are integral to the program. The curriculum is structured to enable students to become certified professional scientists through organizations like The Wildlife Society, American Fisheries Society, or the Society of Wetland Scientists. Graduates may find employment with state or federal wildlife and fisheries agencies, land management organizations, environmental consulting firms, or pursue further education in veterinary medicine or research-oriented graduate programs. The B.S in Natural Resource Ecology and Management boasts unique facilities and resources, including access to the School’s Lee Memorial Forest, which features dormitories and teaching facilities. Students also have the opportunity to utilize vans and trucks for off-campus field trips and activities. Specialization options within the program include: Conservation Biology Fisheries and Aquaculture Wildlife Ecology Wildlife Habitat Conservation and Management Wetland Science Ecological Restoration Forest Enterprise Forest Resource Management Pre-Veterinary Medicine Conservation Biology Concentration Students focusing on Conservation Biology are dedicated to conserving rare, uncommon, threatened, or endangered species through habitat manipulations and genetic approaches.
