International direct admission to Louisiana State University (LSU) is available for international students with advanced English-language skills. The program focuses on academic, cultural, and professional growth to help students excel in school and prepare for a successful future. The LSU School of Art offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Art with tracks in ceramics, painting & drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Each track includes courses in art history. Students in these programs learn to work independently and collaboratively, develop a vocabulary for critiquing and discussing artwork, and hone skills in critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and effective communication. Through coursework in various art and design disciplines, art history, contemporary art theory, and liberal arts and sciences, students acquire the skills and understanding needed to make their art and design practices relevant to historical and contemporary issues. With a strong foundation in artistic, technical, and conceptual skills, students can confidently pursue further study in graduate school or embark on careers as independent studio artists or professional practitioners in fields such as film, video, computer graphics, game design, web design, typography, print design, and more. The program equips students to creatively address issues of value and meaning in their work and lives. The Photography concentration within the BFA Studio Art program teaches students to create dynamic images and consider the cultural implications of the medium. Students develop a visual philosophy and use photographic technique as an expressive tool, blending new and traditional techniques with contemporary art concerns. Through coursework and independent study, students explore a range of conventional and experimental processes in darkrooms and studios for black-and-white, color, large-format, non-silver, studio lighting, and digital photography.
