International direct admission to Louisiana State University (LSU) is available for international students with advanced English-language skills. The program focuses on academic, cultural, and professional growth to help students excel in school and prepare for a successful future. As international direct students at Louisiana State University, individuals will receive: Exclusive and rigorous academic coursework Priority access to in-demand courses aligned with their interests Guidance from academic advisors and mentors Career development and networking opportunities Intensive classes alongside domestic students The Disaster Science and Management (DSM) Program at Louisiana State University, housed within the Department of Geography and Anthropology, offers undergraduate students the opportunity to pursue a B.A. or B.S. degree in Geography with a concentration in DSM. Participation in the Disaster Science and Management program equips students with a comprehensive understanding of disasters’ impact on the natural, built, and human environment. It also provides a foundation for developing effective strategies for disaster planning, mitigation, response, and recovery. Students engage in community service-learning projects, volunteer work, internships, and networking opportunities to prepare for careers in various sectors or further studies in related fields. Through the Disaster Science and Management Program, students learn to: Understand the impact of natural and human-caused hazards on environmental, social, cultural, political, and economic systems Identify strategies for disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery across different sectors Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to policy formulation and implementation in disaster management Communicate effectively about local, national, and global issues in disaster management Overall, the Disaster Science and Management Program at Louisiana State University prepares students for diverse careers and graduate studies in fields related to disaster science and management.
