Program Description International direct admission to UIC Global is for international students with advanced English-language skills. It focuses on academic, cultural, and professional growth so you can excel in school—and prepare for a successful future. As an international direct student at UIC Global, you’ll receive: Exclusive and rigorous academic coursework Priority access to in-demand courses that fit your interests Guidance from academic advisors and mentors Career development and networking opportunities Intensive classes with domestic students The field of Classics and Mediterranean Studies encompasses the cultures of Ancient and Modern Greece, Rome, and the Arab world - their languages, literatures, histories, philosophies, religions, arts, and archaeology. Studies in this field are inherently interdisciplinary and can touch upon many subjects, ranging from mythology to drama and philosophy, from sciences to gender studies, from political theory to sociology and anthropology - a complete liberal arts education in a single department. The intellectual treasures of the Classical civilizations are called Classics because of their unmatched beauty and intelligence, their continuing relevance to the present world, and their ongoing influence on modern thinking. Classical cultures explain much of Western thought. By studying Classics we understand the development of Western literature, art and philosophy and come to see the world of today from a wider, richer, deeper, and more independent perspective. Students who major in classics may go on to pursue careers in law and professional scholarship and teach at college or high school level. Recent classics majors have entered law, medical, and divinity schools, while others have taken positions in business. The training in precise expression and critical thinking that a classics major receives is widely respected by employers.
