Program Description Civil engineers find creative ways to solve real-world problems, developing the physical infrastructure for society to exist: from bridges to houses, and from roads to hospitals and train stations. Nottingham Trent University's Master of Engineering (MEng) in Civil Engineering brings together undergraduate and Masters-level course content. Student will develop a comprehensive knowledge of civil engineering principles and theory, alongside analytical, practical and engineering skills and techniques. Students develop knowledge and skills in architectural and building technology, sustainability in the built environment, health and safety, computer-aided design (CAD), hydraulics, ground engineering, structural engineering, and strategic and operational management in civil engineering. Creativity and innovation in engineering is also a key focus, and students will gain a deeper understanding of engineering principles and practice. The course is designed around the core themes of the professional accrediting bodies, relating learning to application in the real world. Students will develop their general understanding of civil engineering, focusing on key core subject areas – geotechnics, and materials and structures. Students will develop knowledge and skills in architectural and building technology, computer-aided design, health and safety, the environment, hydraulics, ground engineering and structural engineering. Students will look at creativity and innovation within engineering, gaining a deeper understanding of engineering principles and practice. Please be advised that this course includes a sandwich year, which will be studied during the student's graduate degree. This sandwich year in industry will offer students hands-on experience, adding invaluable knowledge and skills to their CV. Many students return to their placement company after graduation, having developed a useful network of contacts within the industry.
