The FIU Global First Year Program combines credit-bearing courses from the first year of a student’s degree with additional support services, instruction tailored to their academic and language level, and cultural experiences, helping to ensure their future success. Furthermore, the Global First Year experience provides more than academic, language, and cultural growth. With the included Career Accelerator program, students can also gain valuable professional skills that prepare them for a successful career. The Career Accelerator is designed specifically for international students: Four semesters of professional development and career guidance Skills-based training and opportunities for exclusive internships Unique workshops, real-world experiences, and cross-cultural group work Florida International University’s Marine Sciences Program is committed to enhancing our understanding and stewardship of the world’s oceans, especially coastal ecosystems. The interdisciplinary program is based in a newly opened building on the Biscayne Bay Campus but includes faculty from diverse departments on two campuses. With unique access to diverse coastal ecosystems of South Florida and the Caribbean and long-term programs worldwide, the Marine Science Program at Florida International University strives for excellence in research, teaching, and public outreach that will aid in the conservation of marine resources for future generations. The Marine Biology major is a major within the Department of Biological Sciences. As an interdisciplinary program, the faculty comes from the diverse departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Earth and Environment, and the Southeast Environmental Research Center. The aim of the Marine Biology degree program is to provide a strong foundation in cell biology, molecular biology and genetics, organismal biology, and population biology, evolution, and ecology. Emphasis will be placed on marine organisms and ecosystems, taking advantage of ready access to the diverse marine environments of Florida and the Caribbean. This field of study will prepare students for further graduate and professional studies, as well as for employment in areas that require university-level training in marine biology and oceanography.
