Program Description The diverse points of view of the faculty in the Department of Painting and Drawing create a dynamic, rigorous environment, where students are encouraged to explore technical, aesthetic, and conceptual issues before focusing their work in preparation for their senior thesis presentations. UHart offers a painting major and a drawing minor. Drawing and painting are closely linked visual practices, and an understanding of one enriches a maturing practice of the other. A fluid definition of these disciplines underscores our understanding that the contemporary art world is widely interdisciplinary in nature. As a student in the painting and drawing department, you will develop personally significant ideas that reference painting’s rich history and contribute to its lively contemporary conversation. Students will participate in a curriculum designed to provide their emerging individual voice with the technical and conceptual grounding necessary for effective expression. International Pathway Program Students should be advised that this is the Extended 3-Semester Pathway option for this program. The International Pathway Program (IPP) is open to students who need to strengthen their English skills before studying a degree program in the USA. The IPP offers undergraduate students the additional support needed for their first year of university study. Students’ academic, social and personal success are ensured while in the program as they prepare to continue on to their degree. Each semester students will take a combination of Hartford academic courses (credited) and English courses (non-credit). Course options are dependent upon the required pathway. Once students have reached the required English level, they can progress to their program at the University of Hartford.
