Catalog description
Join the Extended Accelerator Program at American University! Immerse in cultural studies and earn credits in just three semesters. Apply now!
The Extended Accelerator Program (EAP) may be completed in a few as three semesters and is for students seeking an immersive English-learning experience. The program gives students a firsthand, practical, and cultural understanding of the American University campus and the Washington, DC, area through its contextual curriculum. Students may enter the program in the spring or fall and progress into year two of their undergraduate education with up to a full year’s worth of academic credits. Depending on their intended degree, they may choose their elective curriculum in social sciences, humanities, or the sciences. The Extended Accelerator - Bachelor of Arts - Asia, Pacific, and Diaspora Studies program is one of six interdisciplinary programs which make up the Department of Critical Race, Gender, and Culture Studies, housed in the College of Arts and Sciences. The program is dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of Asia and the Pacific, as well as their diasporic communities, in a dynamic global context. The students critically study the diverse people, cultures, and ideas that move in and across Asia, the Pacific, and their many diasporic communities in the Americas and beyond. Students explore the history and legacies of imperialism and colonialism, as well as the dynamics of gender/sexuality, class, and ethnicity and racial relations. The program’s lively, interdisciplinary course offerings are both deeply local and attentive to national and world-wide frameworks. They are grounded in critical inquiry and a concern for social justice.
