Program Description English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program provides students with the skills they need for success in higher education, work and life in Canada. It combines intensive study with social and cultural activities, as well as fast and efficient progression. Georgian College’s multimedia classrooms, dedicated computer lab, TESL-certified teachers and college activities create an ideal environment for students as a non-native speaker of English to practice and improve their English skills in class and online. Successful completion of levels 7 and 8 will give students direct entry into most postsecondary programs and they will earn an Ontario College Certificate. General English as a Second Language (ESLG) - Levels 1 to 4 For students with TOEFL iBT 0-30 or IELTS 0-4.5 As an English as a Second Language (ESL) student, they will be prepared for success in general English. Students will be provided with introductory through intermediate level English language courses in reading, writing, speaking, grammar, vocabulary and listening. The curriculum includes classroom and technology-assisted learning. They will explore Canadian and intercultural contexts through everyday situations. To graduate from this program, the passing weighted average for promotion through each level and to graduate is 60%. Additionally, students must attain a minimum of 50% or a letter grade of P (pass) or S (satisfactory) in each course in each semester. General Arts and Science Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (EAPC) - Levels 5 to 8 For students with TOEFL iBT 31+ or IELTS 5+ In this program, students will develop English proficiency in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, grammar, vocabulary and listening. They will also learn essential skills for success and communication skills in various contexts. Students will learn through interactive activities, assignments, group work, multimedia materials and in-class instruction. To graduate from this program, the passing weighted average for promotion through each level and to graduate is 60%. Additionally, students must attain a minimum of 50% or a letter grade of P (pass) or S (satisfactory) in each course in each semester. Upon completion of levels 7 and 8, they may enter directly into a diploma program. For students completing level 8 only, the passing mark is 70% (diploma program). Some programs, such as degrees, require a higher average.
