Catalog description
Earn a Dual Degree in Arts & Commerce at Nipissing University! Ideal for international students seeking diverse career opportunities. Apply now!
Students may register in a Bachelor of Commerce with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology degree simultaneously. The Bachelor of Commerce will prepare students for a career and life in general. It gives a wholesome approach to learning that gives students more than a degree. Along with core business knowledge, they will develop professional and social skills. The program’s combination of theoretical background, practical skills, real experience, and techniques to hone independent thinking and problem-solving skills will give graduates an advantage and a better chance of success in a competitive market. Anthropology is a fascinating and interdisciplinary field that will have students investigating the vast scope of human experience. Studies will range in focus from the origin of Nipissing University species and the development of the first known human civilizations to language and the diversity of cultures that exist today. This program provides students with fundamentals, principles and theories by exploring the human experience from cultural, historical, geographical and sociological perspectives. Curiosity may unearth new knowledge as students find themselves immersed in hands-on fieldwork and conducting applied research. Anthropology is part of the Sociology and Anthropology department, and together this department emphasizes applied research. That means students not only read books and write essays, but also get plenty of opportunity for hands-on experience and research. Nipissing also has the distinct advantage of being located in an area that has a rich history of First Nation activity and influence. In addition to traditional themes, the Anthropology program offers a unique focus on working with First Nations communities.
