Program Description The Metal Fabrication Technician (metal fabricator/fitter) program will teach students fundamental fabricating and welding techniques. Students will gain a broad range of essential skills needed for the preparation, fitting and joining of welded fabrications. In Sault College's state-of-the-art labs, students will develop welding skills using top of the line equipment found in today’s workplaces including: Shielded Metal Arc Welder (SMAW or stick welder) Gas Metal Arc Welder (GMAW or MIG welder) Gas Tungsten Arc Welder (GTAW or TIG welder) Flux Cored Arc Welder (FCAW) Students will learn how to safely and effectively lay out and build the parts needed for large projects like bridges, buildings, towers and platforms. They will also learn how to construct and repair steel stairs, boilers, tanks, chutes, hoppers, stacks, and other steel structures.
