The Computerized Accounting and Office program provide students with the opportunity to learn basic office applications, accounting and computerized accounting skills in all phases of the accounting cycle. With these skills, students will be qualified for junior positions in most organizations. Brighton College has partnered with the National Payroll Institute (NPI) (formerly The Canadian Payroll Association), to deliver the Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification (PCP) designation courses. The program focuses on the enhancement of skills needed to work in a Canadian financial office, and the course devotes much time to providing in-depth coverage of Canadian fundamental accounting principles and Canadian payroll skills training. The program also includes work experience (practicum) at various businesses. The purpose of the practicum is to apply the theory and skills learnt throughout the program and observe professionals in practical situations. The students also acquire situational-specific skills and identify areas that may need to be developed further. The class is instructor-driven, allowing students to navigate quickly through theory and accounting software. The computerized accounting software and plenty of free lab time ensures that the student will have the knowledge, skills, and competency to enter this labor force immediately upon graduation.
