College Certificate - Pre-Health Sciences - Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees (PHS2S) (St. Thomas): The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program provides students with the opportunity to study subject areas relevant to health career programs at Fanshawe College and to instill an appreciation of the professional roles, responsibilities and academic requirements of health care disciplines. The goal of the program is to prepare students for their chosen health career program. Students will be prepared to enter other programs within the School of Health Sciences or pursue their education at other institutions. The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to: examine biological concepts, processes and systems of the human body, including genetics and epigenetics, as well as the structure, function and properties of the molecules of life, cells, tissues and organ systems in relation to homeostasis, physical development and health. examine concepts, processes and systems of chemistry, including atomic and molecular structure; quantities in chemical reactions; solutions and solubility; acids and bases; as well as organic chemistry and biochemistry in relation to health and the human body. solve numeric problems and interpret data related to health sciences and other science-related fields using mathematical concepts, including algebra and probability, along with descriptive and inferential statistics. use health sciences and other science-related language and terminology appropriately to communicate clearly, concisely, and correctly in written, spoken, and visual forms. prepare a personal strategy and plan for academic, career and professional development in the health sciences or other science-related fields. investigate health sciences and science-related questions, problems and evidence using the scientific method. examine fundamental physics laws and concepts and their application to health sciences and other science-related fields. Advanced College Diploma - Massage Therapy - Accelerated (MSG2) (London): The Massage Therapy program at Fanshawe College is built around the guiding principles of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). This particular program explores the curriculum beyond just the minimum required. With a strong focus on medical knowledge, students will be exposed to many learning opportunities. The professional faculty will provide students with a high-caliber experience. Students will learn the "assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissues of the body and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain," as according to The Massage Therapy Act of Ontario. Theory and practice are integral to the program, and students will be exposed to directly learning the skills of a Massage Therapist in the first level. Many adjunct therapies to the Massage Therapist will be studied, including sport massage, clinical massage, pregnancy massage and more. The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to: conduct a massage therapy practice within a legal, professional and ethical framework. apply business principles relevant to a massage therapy practice. communicate and collaborate effectively and professionally with clients, colleagues and members of the interprofessional team. develop and maintain therapeutic relationships to optimize clients’ health and wellness. collect and assess clients’ information to determine their state of health and the treatment goals. develop a plan of care according to the client’s condition and the treatment goals. implement the plan of care according to the client’s condition and the treatment goals. evaluate the effectiveness of the plan of care. maintain documentation securely, accurately and in a timely manner. develop and implement ongoing effective strategies for personal and professional development to ensure quality care.
