Program Description Civil engineers find creative ways to solve real-world problems, developing the physical infrastructure for society to exist – from bridges to houses, and from roads to hospitals and train stations. This course provides a broad civil engineering education and will give students the design, analysis and construction skills needed for the industry. Students will be equipped with the abilities necessary for developing sustainable and cost-effective design ideas. Through industry-facing projects, a residential field trip, site visits and a work placement year, the course will give students the skills needed to begin a successful career. Students will learn about structures, materials, geotechnics and mathematics and develop an applied understanding of practical engineering techniques to find innovative solutions to real-world built environment challenges. This course exposes students to the exciting and rapidly expanding world of construction, preparing them to take on the challenges of developing and maintaining the infrastructure that underpins society. The course develops together the theory and practice of civil engineering, with an emphasis on the practical nature of civil engineering and the application and management of current technologies. The final year of the course builds upon the engineering knowledge and practice developed in Years One and Two and broadens the curriculum, addressing issues such as people management, finance, professional ethics, and transportation issues. Please be advised that this program includes a sandwich year, which will be studied during the student's undergraduate degree.
