Swansea University's Bachelor of Science Chemistry degree will develop students' practical skills as well as their theoretical comprehension, and students will have plenty of time in the lab carrying out experiments. In the first year, students will undertake a ‘Chemical Thinking’ module to prepare them for university study. Students will then gain a broad knowledge of organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, theoretical chemistry and biochemistry and project-based practical work in all their core modules. A flexibly structured degree path means students have the opportunity to study abroad for a year or work in industry for a year, either locally, nationally or overseas. Students will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, and discussion groups, supported by practical classes. The core modules will be aligned with current pioneering research in the fields of natural products, materials engineering and medicine. The Chemistry curriculum at Swansea is informed by the needs of modern industry and constantly updated, ensuring students will always be taught relevant material which is applicable in the wider world.
