Chemistry is the study of the composition, structure, properties and transformations of matter. The chemistry major exposes students to wide range of modern chemical knowledge and laboratory skills in the five main branches of chemistry – organic, inorganic, analytical, physical and biochemistry. The biochemistry concentration is intended to serve pre-professional students and those who wish to pursue graduate work at the chemistry-biology interface. The Biochemistry concentration leads to a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with an emphasis in biochemistry. This concentration is for students whose interests lie in careers at the biology/chemistry interface. This concentration is popular with students with the goal of attending a graduate professional school (Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, etc.) and students that desire to pursue graduate (MS or PhD) study in bio-related disciplines.
