Pursue a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on Professional Communication at Tennessee Tech. Gain skills for success in diverse workplaces. Apply now!
English is a broad major that allows students to focus on a number of areas of study such as literature, linguistics, and both creative writing and practical writing. Attention is given to gender and culture issues in literature and language courses. Students develop the ability to communicate and a sense of humanity that is increasingly recognized as a valuable tool in the workplace. The concentration of professional communication provides students with knowledge of skills, strategies, and theories necessary for employment in various workplace and technological settings, with options in corporate culture, information architecture, and scientific and technical writing. The Professional and Technical Communication concentration is designed to expose students to a wide range of communication strategies, theories, and technologies. This concentration offers three options: Scientific and Technical Writing, Corporate Culture, and Information Architecture. The concentration, which is designed to meet students' needs for communicating in a technologically advancing business world, offers courses from multiple disciplines so that students can connect writing strategies from many fields for a well-rounded communication experience. Core courses in this concentration cover topics such as document design, ethics, report writing, web design, technical editing, grant writing, and oral communication. Some students choose to extend their studies by going to graduate school. Whatever career path you choose, Professional Communication can provide you with essential theories, writing strategies, and oral communication skills to help you obtain success.
