Catalog description
Explore the Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies - English at Cape Breton University. Engage with literature and enhance your language skills. Apply now!
The English language is central to the way billions of people work, play, think and relate to one another. The English program at Cape Breton University teaches students to become an expert user of the language, understanding the history and applications in all its linguistically splendid detail and nuance. A big part of that nuance will come from understanding humanity’s richest literary tradition, engaging with some of the world’s most profound imaginations. Studying English means learning to think not just critically, but curiously and courageously. It’s opening students' eyes to cutting-edge ideas while also being skeptical and analytical. Studying English means coming to understand the way an individual's language shapes them, their societies and even their physical environment. An individual can study how they can use language – and its texts – to understand their past, to remake themselves and to understand the world around them. *Please note: Cape Breton is implementing a Tuition Deposit Policy. The Tuition Deposit Policy will take effect for all applicants starting with the January 2024 application. Students who receive an offer to study at Cape Breton University will be required to make a nonrefundable tuition deposit of a minimum of $2,500 to confirm their seat in the program . If a student does not confirm their seat, CBU cannot guarantee a spot will be available at registration time.
