Program Description Gas and corn prices fluctuate, stock markets gyrate and corporations spring up and fade out at an amazing speed. Economists thrive on making sense of these seemingly chaotic aspects of everyday life as they examine and analyze their underlying principles. As students study Economics at UW-Superior, they will conduct surveys and collect data as their research and analyze current economic issues and prepare and present their research results. Develop, discuss and analyze various economic policy options. Explore sustainable economics and the social and political elements of economic theory and practice. Program Outcomes Through a Major in Economics at UW-Superior, students will: Apply knowledge of economic terminology, concepts and theories. Be able to apply their knowledge to understand the economy in general, as well as analyze various social, political and economic issues. Develop economic reasoning and research skills and be able to demonstrate them through critical thinking, rational decision-making and competent collection and processing and interpretation of information. Be able to communicate effectively in oral and written forms using professional economics language. Career Opportunities Employment of economists is expected to grow about as fast as the average during the next decade, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
