Catalog description
Join the Academic Accelerator for a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Ecology at LSU. Tailored support for international students. Apply now!
The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a balanced first-year program designed for international students with strong English-language skills. It provides additional support to complement English-taught classes, ensuring students have the necessary resources for success. Students enrolled in the Academic Accelerator Program can expect: Tailored support for academic and English-language needs A full year’s worth of college credits Access to courses specifically for international students Assistance with English vocabulary essential for coursework A mix of classes with both international and United States students The Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Ecology and Management offered by the School of Renewable Natural Resources is a comprehensive program that covers a wide range of topics including wetlands, wildlife, conservation biology, fisheries, aquaculture, forestry, habitat management, and law enforcement. Students in this program also have the opportunity to prepare for careers as wildlife-oriented veterinarians. What sets this program apart from traditional biology programs is its hands-on approach to learning and its focus on resource policy, regulations, and the human aspects of resource research and management. Students can expect field experiences in forests, wetlands, and aquatic environments, with an emphasis on habitats, animal populations, and community management. Graduates of the program have the opportunity to become certified professional scientists through organizations such as The Wildlife Society, American Fisheries Society, or the Society of Wetland Scientists. They go on to work for state or federal wildlife and fisheries agencies, environmental consulting firms, non-governmental organizations, or pursue further education in veterinary medicine or advanced research degrees. The Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Ecology and Management offers unique facilities and resources, including access to the School’s Lee Memorial Forest, vans and trucks for off-campus field trips, and specialized courses in various areas of study. Students can choose from a range of specializations, including Conservation Biology, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Wildlife Ecology, and more. One unique specialization offered is the Forest Enterprise Concentration, which focuses on the business aspects of forestry and wood products. Given that forestry is a significant sector in Louisiana’s agricultural industry, graduates with this specialization can contribute to local, state, and national economies.
