The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a balanced first-year program designed for international students with proficient English-language skills. It complements immersive classes taught in English with appropriate support. As a student in the Academic Accelerator, individuals will receive: The necessary support for academic and English-speaking requirements A full year’s worth of college credits Access to courses exclusively for international students Assistance with English-language vocabulary needed for classes A mix of classes with both international and U.S. students The Disaster Science and Management (DSM) Program at Louisiana State University is a part of the Department of Geography and Anthropology. Undergraduate students can enroll in the Department to pursue a B.A. or B.S. degree in Geography with a concentration in Disaster Science and Management. Participating in the Disaster Science and Management program allows students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the impact of disasters on the natural, built, and human environment. It also equips students with the skills to plan effectively for, mitigate, respond to, and recover from disasters. Students have opportunities to engage in community service-learning projects, volunteer work, internships, and discussions with professionals in various fields related to disaster management. The Disaster Science and Management Program prepares students for careers in public, not-for-profit, or private sectors, as well as for further studies in various disciplines. Students in the program learn to understand the impact of hazards on environmental, social, cultural, political, and economic systems, develop strategies for disaster preparedness and response, and demonstrate problem-solving and communication skills in disaster management.
