The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a balanced first-year program for international students with strong English-language skills. It provides additional support to immersive classes taught in English. Students in the Academic Accelerator Program will receive: Appropriate support for academic and English-speaking needs A full year’s worth of college credits Access to courses specifically for international students Assistance with English vocabulary relevant to their classes A mix of classes with both international and U.S. students The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Louisiana State University (LSU) offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering. This program is the only one of its kind on the central Gulf Coast. Since its establishment in 1995, the program has graduated numerous individuals who now work in various sectors across the U.S. The Environmental Engineering program at Louisiana State University is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Employment prospects in environmental engineering are very promising, as it is a rapidly growing field. Environmental engineers utilize principles from biology, chemistry, and physics to address environmental challenges. They focus on areas such as water and air pollution control, recycling, waste disposal, climate change, and public health. Environmental engineers are responsible for managing municipal water supply and wastewater treatment in both urban and rural settings. They also work on mitigating risks associated with hazardous materials in the environment by developing safe disposal and remediation methods for contaminated soil, sediment, and water. In addition to local and regional issues, environmental engineers tackle global challenges like the world water and sanitation crisis, population growth, and climate change. Upon graduation, Environmental Engineering program graduates will demonstrate proficiency in: Engaging actively in practice, research, education, or management in their engineering and professional careers Exhibiting technical expertise, innovation, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities in their work Possessing the necessary skills to effectively communicate as a technologically-advanced professional Recognizing the importance of professional licensure and continuous learning Participating as active members in their profession, community, or other organizations that contribute to society Our environmental engineering graduates pursue careers as consultants, government employees, non-profit workers, and industry professionals. A degree in environmental engineering also serves as excellent preparation for advanced studies in environmental law, medicine, or public health.
