As a student in the Academic Accelerator, one will receive: The right amount of support for academic and English-speaking needs A full year’s worth of college credits Access to courses exclusively for international students English-language help with words needed for classes A mix of classes with international and U.S. students The Louisiana State University School of Interior Design offers a Bachelor of Interior Design (BID) program that is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and meets the education requirements for the NCIDQ exam and for licensure as an interior designer. The program is professionally oriented and focuses on commercial and corporate interiors. Specialized knowledge in design, color and light, history and theory, furnishings and materials, environmental systems and controls, interior construction and building systems, and regulations are taught. Additionally, critical thinking skills, an understanding of the global context of design, the value of collaboration, and creative and professional modes of communication are emphasized. The environment at the School of Interior Design is welcoming, with a large SEC flagship university setting and the benefits of a small, close-knit community. Students and faculty have a first-name basis relationship. Close advising on course selections, progress through the curriculum, and career goals is provided. Room in required courses is ensured so that each student can graduate on time when following the prescribed curriculum. Students participate in a design studio during every semester of the professional curriculum. The design studio is the core of the curriculum work, where projects are designed over an extended period of time. Each student is assigned a desk/workstation for project work. The studio and workstation are secure, with 24/7 access. Professional internships are required for students to gain valuable experience in the profession. Faculty and alumni help facilitate internship opportunities and offer guidance. Opportunities for off-campus and abroad study are available. Faculty lead field trips and excursions to nearby attractions and national and regional interior design conferences. Third- and fourth-year students have the option to visit major cities each spring. Travel abroad opportunities for course credit are offered through academic programs abroad. Louisiana State University School of Interior Design alumni work in various areas of the profession across the country. Alumni frequently visit the college to serve as jurors or lead workshops. Over 93% of students are employed within six months of graduation, thanks in part to the alumni network.
