The Academic Accelerator Program (AAP) is a balanced first-year program for international students with strong English-language skills. It complements immersive classes taught in English with appropriate support. Students in the Academic Accelerator receive: Tailored support for academic and English-speaking needs A full year’s worth of college credits Access to courses exclusively for international students English-language assistance with key vocabulary for classes A mix of classes with international and U.S. students Philosophy is an essential component of a university education, focusing on reasoned analysis of fundamental issues of meaning and value. LSU’s philosophy program offers a wide range of courses covering philosophical questions, logic, and the history of philosophy. We provide a master’s degree, undergraduate major, and minor in philosophy. Philosophy courses prepare students for diverse opportunities in academia and beyond, with a background in philosophy beneficial for further studies in law, linguistics, computer science, and the humanities or social sciences. Ethics courses are particularly valuable for careers in medicine, law, or business, while logic courses benefit students in mass communications, pre-law, and medical or business fields. All LSU undergraduate philosophy majors receive comprehensive training in ethics, history of philosophy, and logic. Students customize their major by selecting courses based on their interests. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of philosophical study, many philosophy majors also pursue another discipline.
